Royal Cafe , Mt. Clemens, MI, Review
The Royal Cafe is located just south of downtown Mt. Clemens on southbound Gratiot. If you aren't looking for it, you'd never know it was there. But once you try it out, you will be back again and again. It's located just down the street from the (McLaren) hospital, on the corner of Harrington and Gratiot.
Their meals are all inclusive. Breakfasts are generous, lots of luncheon specials, and the dinner menu includes soup, salad, and dessert. Everything is fresh and appears to be homemade. They give you enough that you can take home a second meal. On this Saturday noon, we DIVAS stopped by for lunch. I decided on something on the Saturday lunchtime menu. The menu was extensive and I chose the ham omelette with hash browns the way I like them, crispy. It came with an order of toast ($5.25). The other DIVA had the Philly Cheese sandwich (that was HUGE) for $6.25. It was plenty big and very good.
Both of our lunch choices included a bread basket and a cup of soup. There were many to choose from, and all are homemade. The soups are also included with anything on the dinner menu.
My dinner favorite is the turkey dinner, as good as grandma makes. It's hard to choose between the blue cheese or Greek dressing for the salad, both are very good. Quality fell several years ago, but it is back. Soups are the best, as good, if not better than the expensive restaurants.
You can enter either at the front door, or if you park in the back (as most do) there is also an entrance there. There is lots of close parking at the door. They seat you right away, and are cheerful and attentive throughout the meal. They welcome families, too. The Royal Cafe is right across from the fire house. Kids will love watching fire trucks coming and going visible from their large outside windows.
The Royal Cafe is located at 1120 Southbound Gratiot Ave. in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. They are located just south of the downtown Mt. Clemens court houses. If you are southbound on Gratiot, make sure to slow down or you will miss the driveway. The ROYAL sign is large enough but you could easily go right by. (Their driveway is right before the sign.)
The food is home cooking, at its finest. Prices are reasonable and they welcome children. If you're hungry, don't pass this place up, for there is something for everyone here.
